What you can catch

These waters are packed with life

Most visitors have no idea. The warm, shallow waters off Abu Dhabi, fed by mangrove nurseries, reef systems and deep channels, hold serious game fish all year. This is not a one-species fishery. It is one of the richest inshore fisheries in the Gulf, and it starts minutes from the launch.

The captain picks the day's spots based on tide charts and ten years of local knowledge. We follow local size and bag limits, and release juveniles. Fishing licenses are arranged for you before the trip.

Hamour, orange-spotted grouper

Hamour

Orange-spotted grouper

The UAE's most famous fish, found over rocky seabeds, reefs and around jetties. A reef bruiser that dives straight for structure the moment it feels the hook. The prize of every bottom-fishing trip, and unbeatable on the grill.

Kingfish, narrow-barred Spanish mackerel

Kingfish

King mackerel · Kanaad

The premier winter trolling target, best November to March. Blistering first runs that test every knot you tied, from a fish that can push past a meter long.

Giant trevally

Giant trevally

The reef thug

Smashes lures with shocking violence, then tries to cut you off on the nearest rock. Pure adrenaline on medium tackle along reef edges and channel drop-offs.

Queenfish

Queenfish

Inshore speedster · Abu Shwaika

Leaps and tail-walks across the surface when hooked. Targeted jigging near bridges, channels and sandbank edges in the cooler months. Light-tackle chaos, often in sight of the skyline.

Sheri, spangled emperor

Sheri

Spangled emperor · Shaari

A pink-skinned bottom fish caught year-round over rocky and coral structure. One of the best eating fish in the Gulf, and just as welcome in the cooler box as hamour.

Red snapper on the reef

Snapper

Arabian and red snapper

Common over local reefs and inshore channels. Hard-fighting bottom fish, and excellent on the grill next to hamour.

Great barracuda

Barracuda

The silver torpedo

A fast, aggressive predator with serious teeth. Targeted trolling coastal drop-offs and on light tackle. Explosive strikes and relentless runs.

Cobia

Cobia

The lone hunter · Sikena

A strong-fighting offshore game fish that patrols buoys, markers and channel edges on its own. Few fish pull harder pound for pound. When one shows up, it becomes the story of the trip.

Where we fish

Four waters, four ways to fish

Abu Dhabi gives you completely different fisheries within a short ride of each other. Tell the captain what excites you and he builds the day around it.

Boats beached at a mangrove island with the Abu Dhabi skyline behind

Mangroves and backwater

The quiet channels behind the islands are a nursery for everything that swims here. Light tackle, surface lures, queenfish crashing bait in inches of water. Big boats cannot get in here. A shallow-draft boat slips through silently.

Fishing boat heading out to the inshore reefs

Inshore reefs

Bottom fishing over natural structure and reef edges for hamour, sheri and trevally. Drop a bait, hold on, and keep the fish out of the rocks. This is where dinner comes from.

Open-water trolling

Tow lures behind the ski across current lines and drop-offs where kingfish and barracuda hunt. Cover miles of water, watch the rod double over, and hang on for the first run.

Groups and full days

Big boat charters

For bigger groups, longer days or further offshore marks, we run private boat fishing charters with full gear, shade and deck space. Custom quote based on group size and hours.

Fishing trip FAQ

What kind of fish will we target?
It depends on the season and the water you want to fish. The cooler months, November to March, are prime for kingfish on the troll. Hamour, sheri, trevally, queenfish and cobia bite year-round across the reefs, mangroves and channels. Tell the captain what excites you and he builds the day around it.
Can we take a bigger boat instead of jet skis?
Yes. For groups, full days or further offshore marks we run private boat fishing charters with full gear, shade and deck space. Message us on WhatsApp with your group size and we will quote it.
Do I need a fishing license?
We arrange the license for you via the TAMM portal before the trip, just bring your passport or Emirates ID details when you book.
I have never fished from a jet ski. Is it stable?
The Fish Pro is designed for it, with a wider hull and stable fishing mode. Your captain shows you positioning and anchoring before the first cast.
Can I keep what I catch?
Yes, within local size and bag limits. The crew cleans and packs your catch, and undersized fish are released.
What is the best time to go?
Early morning, 06:30 to 09:30, is prime time. Ask for the dawn slot when you book on WhatsApp.
Is Abu Dhabi good for fishing?
Yes. The waters around Abu Dhabi hold hamour, kingfish (kanaad), giant trevally, queenfish (abu shwaika), sheri (shaari), cobia (sikena), snapper and barracuda. Reef species bite year-round, and November to March is the prime season. Mangrove channels, inshore reefs and offshore drop-offs are all within a short ride.
What is the best month for fishing in Abu Dhabi?
November to March is the peak window, when cooler water brings kingfish onto the current lines and every reef species feeds hard. Outside those months the fishing stays good, especially for hamour, sheri and trevally on the reefs.
How much does a fishing charter cost in Abu Dhabi?
A 2-hour Sea-Doo Fish Pro rental is AED 550 with gear, bait and GPS included. A 3-hour guided fishing tour with a local captain is AED 900. Private boat fishing charters are quoted on WhatsApp based on group size and hours.
Can beginners go fishing in Abu Dhabi?
Absolutely. The 3-hour guided tour is built for first-timers: the captain picks the spots, sets up the gear and coaches technique the whole way. Most first-timers land fish.
